Non-Licensed Resident Assistant

Job Objective/ Summary: Assist older people who are functionally, physically, and or socially impaired and need 24-hour oversight. Assist with activities of daily living in a manner that , at all times, fosters each residents’ independence, freedom of choice, privacy, dignity and total well-being. Responsible for providing person-centered care that protects residents’ rights including their right to say no and for maintaining the philosophy of Friendsview Residential Care services.

Currently have full time, part time and variable hour positions available including Day, Evening and Night Shift.

Hourly Rate $11.28-$12.10 an hour depending on experience.

Full Compensation and health benefits package for full time employees working 32+ hours a week.

Essential Functions:

  • Adheres to Friendsview’s policies and procedures; including those covering privacy and security in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and codes of conduct. . Maintains confidentiality and respects residents privacy at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  1. Observes and reports changes in residents’ physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to charge nurse or Resident Care Manager as needed
  1. Provides accurate documentation reflecting the daily care provided
  2. Answers all call lights promptly
  1. Conducts room checks and resident rounds
  • Performs treatments and other duties as delegated by an RN

 

    • Willing to participate in delegation for giving medications, doing treatments, testing blood sugars as assigned
  • In accordance with the resident’s wishes and as directed in the resident’s service plan, provides assistance with:

 

  • Personal hygiene (shaving, dental hygiene, nail, hair, and foot care), dressing, bathing
  • Toileting which may include bowel or bladder training and incontinency assistance
  • Setting up meals and nourishments
  • Vital signs and weights
  • Range of motion or other restorative procedures
  • Participating in and supporting the resident-centered activity program
  • The safe use of mobility devices (cane, walker, wheelchair)and gait belt including monitoring of safe transfer and ambulation techniques
  • Care of ADL devices such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids
  • Telephone (assists with calls, phone repairs, hearing and vision adaptive devices)
  • Housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash, cleaning bathroom, bed making, bed changes and light cleaning as needed
  • Uses down time productively by participating in the life of the community; sitting with residents, engaging in activities or preparing for future needs Residents Assistants working in the Special Care Center must complete the Memory Care Training course and are also responsible for the following:

  • In a manner that honors the person they were prior to memory loss, assists with ADL’s and individualized meaningful activities for each resident
  • Redirects/re-approaches in response to behaviors that don’t benefit the well-being of the resident or others, in ways described in the Memory Care Training Program, always protecting the residents’ self-respect and dignity
  • Uses finesse, knack, and other techniques learned in Memory Care Training class in communicating and interacting with residents who have dementia.Resident Assistants working in the Residential Care Center may also be responsible for the following:

  • Gives medications after receiving the required training

  • Reports to charge nurse any suspected abuse, neglect and/or mistreatment of residents
  • Follows directions and instructions given by supervisor or personnel in charge

  1. Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations
  1. Monitors for environmental safety hazards
  1. Records incidents, errors, or accidents
  1. Assists with quality assurance programs when indicated
  1. Assists in training new staff
  2. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Job Education, Licenses/Certifications, Knowledge & Experience:
    • Must be 18 years of age.
    • Prefer previous caregiving experience
  • Supervising (direct reports and level of supervision): no supervision, may assist in training new staff
  • Decision Making: General supervision and a set of broadly understood position expectations. Decision-making with limited discretion, latitude, or negotiation. Assistance or resources are readily available.
  • Interpersonal Skills/Interactions: Communication and interpersonal skills are important, and must be well refined. Communicates regularly with employees, residents, family members, and medical professionals. At times, interactions with others may be complex, demanding or difficult.

  • Verbal English language skills adequate for effective communication with residents and staff.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work with and communicate with the elderly.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and adjust priorities on short notice.
  • Must be capable of maintaining confidentiality of information at all times.

Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass the Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check and, if applicable, fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass the pre-employment reference checks.
  • Must be able to provide the official grade transcripts of the education level provided on the employment application.
  • Must be able to provide a copy of his/her own social security card for W-4 documentation.
  • Must be able to provide applicable documentation(s) for I-9 in order to establish identity and authorization to work in the US.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, personal automobile liability insurance, and acceptable driving record (if required to drive).

Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Category I: Your tasks routinely involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, or other contaminated materials. In compliance with OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens, Friendsview Retirement community will offer Hepatitis B vaccine to all employees who are determined to be at risk of exposure to blood or other body fluids and follow up to all employees who have had an exposure incident. This vaccine will be provided at no cost to the employee.
