Candi Horton
Council Assistant Treasurer
Candi Horton moved to Friendsview in 2019. For the previous 23 years she lived in Sonoma, CA, where she and her husband, Brian Smucker, owned three fair trade stores. She spent her entire career in retail management, first in the Christian bookstore industry and then in fair trade.
In her work with fair trade, she has visited artisan groups in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Ghana, Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile. For fun she has traveled to New Zealand on a cargo freighter, visited the rainforests of Madagascar and cruised Alaska, Hawaii and the Panama Canal.
Her volunteer activities pre-retirement included serving on the board of directors of SERRV International (treasurer), four years with Ten Thousand Villages (a program of Mennonite Central Committee) as a store planter, many years as treasurer of her local church, numerous responsibilities for the Fair Trade Federation, four months in Washington DC at the National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund and assisting weekly in a 2nd grade classroom at her community elementary school.
